Application & Hiring Process

Applications for current vacancies are accepted during the hours of 8:00am and 5:00pm
Monday through Friday. If a closing date is specified on the vacancy, applications
must be received by 4:30pm on that closing date.
A separate application must be submitted for each position applied. All applications must contain job title & job code of the position applied for; copies of driver’s license, social security card, highest level of education and any other required documents.
Applications received are screened for qualifications and forwarded to the hiring department for review and consideration. Applicants chosen for an interview will be notified by the Human Resources Department either by telephone or by mail. Those applicants who are not chosen to continue further in the selection process will be notified by mail.
If offered a position with the city, the prospective employee will receive a preliminary telephone call and undergo a series of hiring steps as follows:
Letter of intent
Background search & drug screening
Telephone call concerning final offer
Confirmation and salary letter
Please Note: Entering the second phase is contingent upon successful completion of background and drug screening.
Police & Fire require additional testing for hire as stated in the descriptions of available vacancies for those departments.
The City’s hiring process may take from three weeks to over one month. Open continuous positions may take several months.
All new hires are subject to a six-month probationary period, after which time they will qualify for benefits (with the exception of dental and health, which is available on the 1st of the month following the employees 30th day of employment).
