Lightning/Thunderstorm Safety

When sky to ground directional lightning is seen or thunder is heard, fields should be cleared and cover taken in a permanent building.  If a permanent building is not available, seek shelter in vehicles (not soft top cars).  A minimum of 30 minutes should pass after the last seen lightning strike or thunder is heard prior to returning to play. It is recommended that each permit holder develop an internal communication policy with their participants regarding when it is clear to come back to a facility.  City staff has the right to close any outdoor facility at their discretion in the case of lightning and/or thunder.

Park History
This presentation (PDF) documents the successful parks projects initiated by the Palm Beach Gardens volunteer Parks and Recreation Advisory Board (RAB) in the aftermath of the failed 2003 Parks Bond vote. Recognizing that an aging parks system would not service present or future residents, the RAB recommended to Palm Beach Gardens City Council a decade of parks projects to rectify this situation. In partnership with city staff, the RAB did extensive research, sought community input through meetings and established funding through grants, capital, impact and general funds. This is a historical perspective of the events between 2003 and the present and what has been accomplished to become a nationally recognized parks system.
