The Field Operations Division is responsible for oversight and management of the Patrol Operations Bureau and the Special Operations Bureau. The division is supervised by an Assistant Chief of Police James Stormes, with two Majors, one in charge of each bureau. The Assistant Chief reports directly to the Chief of Police and is responsible to the Chief for the efficient and effective operation of the division.
Assistant Chief James Stormes
James E. Stormes began his law enforcement career in 1983 with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office. During his career he has worked in all facets of law enforcement and has commanded numerous bureaus and task forces dealing with Patrol Operations, Field Training, SWAT, Tactical Operations, Homicide Investigations, Special Investigations, Narcotics Investigations and Homeland Security. He rose through the ranks to the rank of Colonel of Law Enforcement Operations before retiring in July 2015. James Stormes was appointed to the position of Assistant Chief of Police of the Palm Beach Gardens Police Department in July 2015.
Assistant Chief Stormes holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from State University of New York at Brockport and a Master's Degree in Public Administration from Barry University. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy (230th Session) and the Police Executive Research Forum, Senior Management Institute for Police (SMIP) Training Course.
