Painting Lessons: Oil & Acrylic

Learn to draw or paint even if you have never taken an art class. As a practicing artist, learn ways to make your drawings and paintings more accurate and more exciting! Students will work from subjects of their choice and will be encouraged to develop their own original styles to reach personal goals. Supply list available at registration.

NEW! Drawing Fundamentals


Learn the basic elements of effective drawing including: line, shape, form, texture, value and space in a fun and interesting way. We will also explore more advanced techniques and skills such as anatomy, portraiture and perspective. Skills will be built through ongoing projects that help to develop each artists’ needs while meeting artistic goals. Supply list available at registration.

Ceramics - Teens/Adults


Discover the ceramic artist in you! All levels are welcome in this class that teaches both hand building and wheel work while receiving individualized attention. Create, play and imagine in clay. Initial clay and glaze fees included. Each additional 25 lb. bag of clay and glaze is $20.

Class will cover the basic skills required for wheel throwing including; wedging, centering, opening, pulling and design considerations. Beginning potters will be given significant individual attention.

New! The Art of Beading: Workshops


The Art of Beading focuses on techniques rather than pre-made kits and patterns. Start with how to thread a needle and the exploration of different threads used, then move onto some important issues such as tension, managing your thread, how to add new thread and end threads. Bead paths will be explored, as well as focusing on different shapes and sizes of beads and how that affects your completed projects.Use creativity choosing colors and finishing techniques. Come join us and have a new experience discovering the magical world of beads! Supplies will be available at every class for your choosing pleasure.

Exploring Right Angle Weave


This four-week session of classes begins with flat right-angle weave (raw) bracelet and guides you through to cubic right-angle weave. Making beaded beads in combinations of 3, 4 and 5; a bracelet, necklace and earrings all with raw techniques. Supplies available for purchase in class.*

Exploring Geometric Beadwork


This four-week session will focus on peyote stitch ranging from a starfish to hollow beaded stars the first two weeks. The starfish can be an ornament or made into a necklace; the same choice applies to the beaded stars. Weeks 3 and 4 focus on fortune tellers or rick rack bracelets, with a component of how to design your own piece. A wide selection of delicas (beads)  will be available at each session.*

‘Dirtless’ Garden Bracelets and/or Lariats


This four-week session offers you a choice of a necklace or bracelet to be completed.  The stitches utilized will be Square, Peyote, Brick, Vining and finishing techniques. No two pieces are alike as you explore the use of color and seasons in each piece. Let your creativity flow;  this session is all about your individual tastes. Supplies available for purchase in class.*

Canceled Classes


Many classes are canceled due to low enrollment. If you are interested in taking a class that has been canceled, please email the Leisure Services Department or call 561-630-1100 and put your name on a list to let us know that you are interested in that class. Once we have enough people to hold the class, we will try to restart that class.
