Arbor Day 2011

Arbor Day 2011 City Council Planting a Tree

On January 21, 2011, the Palm Beach Gardens Women's Club and the City celebrated Arbor Day 2011. On that beautiful Friday morning, Ms. Charlotte Faulconer opened the ceremony by welcoming Mayor, David Levy, Vice Mayor, Bert Premuroso, Council Members, Eric Jablin and Marcie Tinsley, City Manager, Ron Ferris, the children from the City's Riverside Youth Enrichment Center and City staff to the 12th Arbor Day at the PBG Woman's Club Honor Park at Lake Catherine Park. Past Mayor, Don Kiselewski, was also in attendance.

Mayor Levy read the Arbor Day Proclamation proclaiming January 21, 2011 Arbor Day and presented the Proclamation document to the PBG Women's Club. This year the PBG Women's Club donated the Frangipani Tree to the City. City Forester, Mark Hendrickson, provided a few tree facts about the Frangipani tree, such as the flower is used in making the Hawaiian leis. Ms. Faulconer presented the children with a book entitled "The Green Button Wish" written and published by Ms. Faulconer. Parks Director, Mike Kelly, spoke about the Triple Adonidia Palm seedlings donated by James Landscape Design right before the tree planting ceremony. All the gold shovels were lifted with soil by adults and kids alike to establish the Frangipani tree as the 2011 Arbor Day tree. The fun continues because we all will have to wait until spring to find out what color this very fragrant flower will be.
