Celebrate Black History Month with this rich piece of south Florida heritage! “Florida Highwaymen” is the collective name given to a small group of African American painters from Ft. Pierce, Florida, who began painting Florida landscapes in the late 1950s. Selling their colorful works of art along the road, The Highwaymen developed a rapid style of painting that captured a romantic vision of Florida.
The Highwaymen collection of original Florida landscapes titled On the Road Again is on display in the City Hall Lobby from January 25 through March 4, 2021. All works on display are available for purchase.
This exhibit is brought to you by the GardensArt program with paintings contributed by collector Roger Lightle.
