Les Grandes Dames USTA-sanctioned Women’s Senior Singles & Doubles

This national-level Category II tournament that took place January 17-21, 2018, has been a fixture on the winter women’s schedule for more than two decades at the BallenIsles Country Club under the direction of Trish Faulkner. Due to construction at BallenIsles, this year’s tournament was re-located to the City of Palm Beach Gardens Tennis Center in cooperation with Trish. It drew 137 women from as far away as North and South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, the Mid-Atlantic and D.C. areas, Ohio, New York, New England, Ontario, Quebec, Houston, Chicago, Oregon, Washington State, and Brazil. A number of South Floridians and winter visitors also competed, including the following Palm Beach Gardens residents, who made main-draw finals, as follows:
Amy Gordon – Finalist, Women’s 40 singles
Jenny Klitch – Winner (w/Andrea Piski, Jupiter), Women’s 40 Doubles; Winner, Women’s 50 Singles
Frances O’Sullivan – Finalist (w/Mary Morgan, Houston), Women’s 60 Doubles
Dorothy Wasser – Finalist (w/Inge Weber, Scarborough, ON), Women’s 80 Doubles

The tennis in this event is serious, as you can see by the distances travelled. But as the age groups go higher, there is the aspect of a reunion, with decades of rivalry evolving into amicable, if intense, competition between old friends. It’s tennis at its best!

Adult "Sweetheart" Mixed Doubles & Lunch

Saturday, February 17, 10:30am-2:30pm

Those of you who have participated know how much fun our mixed doubles and lunch events can be. There is usually some great competition, followed by a pleasant social hour with pizza, salad, and soft drinks served. Because of its proximity to Valentine’s Day, we are calling this one the “Sweetheart Mixed Doubles.” This does not mean that you must play with your sweetheart/significant other; sometimes it’s best if you don’t! A friend, a dependable doubles partner or even a complete stranger is welcome as your partner. We hope to see you at the PBG Tennis Center for a great day of mixed doubles and sociability!
